Body of 45-year-old man found in canal near Geylang East Park
SINGAPORE — A body was found in a canal near the Geylang East Park in Aljunied on Friday (Aug 5) morning, with the police saying they do not suspect foul play.
SINGAPORE — A body was found in a canal near the Geylang East Park in Aljunied on Friday (Aug 5) morning, with the police saying that they do not suspect foul play.
In response to TODAY’s queries, the police said that they were alerted to blood stains on the ground near Aljunied Avenue 5 at about 7.40am. Aljunied Avenue 5 runs along the perimeter of Geylang East Park.
Responding officers found a 45-year-old man lying motionless in the vicinity.
TODAY understands that the man’s body was found in a canal in the area.
“(He) was subsequently pronounced dead at (the) scene by Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedics,” the police said.
“Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play. Police investigations are ongoing.”
TheHomeGround Asia — a digital news platform — reported that a Gurkha contingent and a K-9 unit was seen in the area, along with plainclothes police officers.
TODAY has asked the police about the presence of the Gurkha contingent.
Earlier this year, officers from the police’s Gurkha contingent were seen at a crime scene near an Upper Bukit Timah playground where the bodies of 11-year-old twins were found in a canal there.
The boys’ father — Xavier Yap Jung Houn — has since been charged with the murder of his sons.
